How to track worldwide iPhone X inventory in real time

Are you looking to get your hands on a brand new iPhone X?  Perhaps you’ve been following the announcement and subsequent release coverage and you’ve decided that you want to get one for yourself.  Now the conundrum–launch day has come and gone.  You didn’t pre-order the iPhone X the week before the launch, and you didn’t wait in line to try and grab one on launch day.  So now what?

When I open Apple.com right now and look for the exact storage capacity, color and carrier that I ordered–256 GB, Space Gray, AT&T, the shipping times are still being reported at 3-4 weeks.  So what about in-store availability you ask?  My nearest 11 stores, some of which are hundreds of miles away have exactly zero in stock. Now what?  You could always continue to drop into stores and check back with Apple.com or with your carrier website for inventory–that might work.  There’s another, more practical option and it’s called iStockNow.

What is iStockNow

iStockNow is a live, worldwide inventory tracker that will give you an up-to-date, real-time snap shot of where you can purchase an iPhone X–or any other iPhone for that matter.  To unlock the full potential of the website and get email notifications of when your desired iPhone is available it’s best to create an account.  After you enter your email address, you will receive an email with a link to sign into iStockNow.  From here select iPhone from the list on the left, then select the iPhone model, storage capacity, color and carrier of your choice.  You can select as many options at once as you like to increase your chances of matching to a device you are willing to spend money on.  Quick tip: make sure you select the “Hide if no stock” or else you will see all of locations of  Apple Stores in your area/country.  A check just now, selecting all colors, storage capacity and carriers in the US indicated there is exactly zero stock available in stores.

In addition to checking current inventory, you can also look back in time and to see where iPhones were available in the last 4 hours, 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days.  As countries are added to the release schedule they will also show up in the tracking map, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t see any movement where you live.  If you don’t want to have to check back repeatedly throughout the day, you can click “Notify” in the upper left corner to stay up to date.  When you select to be notified, though, you will also be prompted to zoom into your search area (not to exceed 200 stores!) with the +/- at the top middle of your display.  Furthermore, you need to fine tune your choices so that no more than 10 models (combination of color, storage & carrier) are in your filter to be notified.

Once selected you can save your choices at the bottom of the page, and you will now be notified by email when at least one of your choices from a store you have selected becomes available.  I noticed when I was going through the steps, there was a green mark next to an iPhone within my filter was available form the online AT&T store.  Be advised, though, when I followed the link and visited the AT&T website and picked the same iPhone X from my filter, it still wasn’t shipping until at least November 28th.  I did not follow through and try to complete the process, however.  It is possible that the phone might have been available sooner if I picked up my purchase in a local AT&T store.
